Scaffolding AI in Teaching
AI use in teaching and learning is expanding rapidly, but faculty readiness remains uneven and evidence of meaningful learning impact is still developing.
Developed by the DEC 2026 Teaching with AI Working Group, this report provides a practical framework for scaffolding AI use in teaching. It maps AI practices across seven domains of teaching and four levels of application, helping educators identify appropriate entry points and progress towards more advanced use.
The report also introduces an evaluation framework to help institutions assess whether a particular AI use case is appropriate for their context.
The report also includes a Use Case Bank featuring real-world practices in teaching with AI, with practical guidance to support implementation across different teaching contexts.
